XLClass is committed to creating an environment where children and young people feel safe, respected and supported. The safety and wellbeing of children takes priority over commercial or operational considerations.
These policies apply to users of xlclass.com.au and XLClass services.
Who this policy applies to
- Students
- Parents and guardians
- Teachers and instructors
- XLClass employees
- Contractors
- Administrators
- Any other person participating in XLClass services
Teacher screening
XLClass may require teachers to provide:
- Identity verification
- Educational or professional qualifications where relevant
- Teaching experience
- References
- Police or background checks where appropriate
- Working with Children Check or equivalent clearance where legally required or applicable
International teachers may be required to provide equivalent background screening documentation available in their country. XLClass may suspend or remove a teacher if concerns arise regarding their suitability to work with children.
Online class safety
Teachers must conduct XLClass lessons only through communication methods authorised by XLClass. Teachers must not privately contact children using personal WhatsApp accounts, social media accounts, personal email, SMS or other messaging platforms unless XLClass specifically permits the communication and the parent or guardian is appropriately involved. Teachers must not request unnecessary personal information from students.
Parent supervision
Depending on the child’s age, XLClass may recommend that a parent or responsible adult be present during the first lesson, remain within reasonable proximity during lessons, assist younger children with technology and review communications involving their child.
Appropriate behaviour
Teachers must:
- Treat children respectfully
- Use age appropriate language
- Maintain professional boundaries
- Avoid discriminatory or humiliating behaviour
- Never make sexual or inappropriate comments
- Never request inappropriate photographs or videos
- Never arrange an in person meeting with a child without parental involvement and XLClass approval
- Never encourage students to keep conversations secret from their parents
Photography and recording
Students and teachers must not independently record, photograph or distribute class sessions without permission. Where XLClass records classes for safety, quality, dispute resolution or training purposes, users will be informed. Recordings involving children will be handled in accordance with the XLClass Privacy Policy and Online Class Recording Policy.
Reporting concerns
Parents, students and teachers should immediately report any child safety concern to childsafety@xlclass.com.au.
Reports may include inappropriate teacher behaviour, bullying, harassment, sexualised communication, requests for private communication, threats, discrimination, suspected grooming, inappropriate content or any behaviour that makes a child feel unsafe.
Immediate action
XLClass may immediately suspend accounts or access to classes while a serious safety concern is investigated. Where required by law, matters may be referred to relevant authorities.
No retaliation
No student, parent, teacher or other person will be penalised for making a genuine child safety report.
